Introduction

This medical fitout in Deakin, ACT. involved the refurbishment of a regulated tenancy within the John James Medical Centre. RECON Projects delivered the project under a fixed 4-week timeframe, coordinating design, approvals, demolition, and construction within a live operational healthcare environment. Following the departure of the previous tenant, the client required an urgent upgrade to create additional consulting space within the medical centre. The works needed to be completed before the Christmas shutdown, with minimal disruption to surrounding tenancies and daily operations.

Key Challenges

Fixed 4-week completion deadline | Live, high foot-traffic medical centre environment | Strict access, safety, and compliance requirements | Multiple project stages delivered in parallel

Our Approach

The project was delivered under an ECI (Early Contractor Involvement) model, allowing design, approvals, and construction planning to progress concurrently. All works were undertaken after hours (post-6PM) to minimise disruption within the medical centre. Demolition and refurbishment activities were carefully staged and sequenced, ensuring safe access and continuous operation of surrounding tenancies. Close coordination with the client, landlord, and centre management ensured alignment across all stakeholders, with site controls implemented in accordance with ISO-certified WHS systems suitable for a live healthcare setting.
